Although most of our costumes are hand-made and custom-sized, we also build on standard dresses, leotards, and unitards from such manufacturers as Mirella, M. Stevens, Grishko, and many others.
Or we can build from garments you already have.
Plus, nearly any of the dancewear items offered on our Dancewear pages can be decorated as-is, or used as the basis for a costume design.
You will find many examples of our creations sprinkled through-out the site and in The Photo Gallery.
We are always happy to take the time necessary to discuss and refine your ideas and the design options for your particular performance needs.
To speak with our design staff, please call or email us.
See the How to Contact Us page for all the ways to get in touch with us.
Please note:
1 - Most custom work will require specific measurements using our measurement form.
See our Womens Measurement Chart page to print or download the required pages.
(For Mens items, please call or email us to discuss the measurements that will be needed).
We recommend having a professional seamstress/tailor gather the necessary information.
2 - Please provide enough advance notice that we can complete your items by the due date.
The timeframe for all custom work is 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the item(s) - and possibly longer during peak seasons.
All projects are 'first-come, first-served'.
3 - All custom item sales are final - no returns, no exceptions.
4 - Most Custom Items must be Pre-Paid.
For some items, at our discretion, we may require only a 50% deposit before beginning the work, with the balance due upon completion.
However, we will not ship the item to you without first receiving payment in full.
In particular please note: if you are paying by personal or company check, you should allow an additional 10 days for bank-processing before we begin your project or ship your finished item.
Please see the How to Order page for payment options and details.
About the Designer
Ms. Claudia Folts has over 30 years experience in the world of ballet, as a professional dancer and director onstage and backstage, in the classroom and the design shop, as a teacher and a student, and as a school owner, company director, and author.
She is much in-demand as a costume and stage designer, and to costume individual dancers and entire ballets.
Ms. Folts has designed for dancers and companies worldwide, for her own professional and student companies, for Miss USA contestants,
and for professional ballerinas and danseurs in the USA, Australia, England, Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, and many other countries.
Her books on costume design and construction are used by professional and amateur costumers at ballet schools and companies internationally.
If a particular tutu or costume especially caught your eye, it may well have been "a Claudia's" (a phrase we've heard backstage more than once).
Prefer to do it yourself? Tutu.Com also publishes several books on the art and secrets of costume design, construction, and embellishment, as well as many patterns,
and carries all the necessary fabrics, trims, rhinestones and those hard-to-find specialty items like boning, hooping, cording, and nude elastic.
And if you aren't sure how to start, Tutu.Com conducts several seminars a year around the country to show you how.
All of this information is available from the Tutu.Com Home Page.
