Flat-Back Sew-On Rhinestones have one or more holes drilled through the crystal. They are meant to be sewn to the material, but may also be glued on using one of the several adhesives specially made for the purpose.

Round stones that have a 'Center-Hole' (Lochrosen), drilled through the center of the crystal, allow you to attach a bead in the center of the stone should you desire.

Larger round and shaped stones (tear-drop/pear-shape, navette/cat's-eye, diamond, square, oval, etc.) have 2 or more holes at the edges of the stone. The multiple holes allow for a more secure attachment to the fabric.
