Teaching what we do best! Tutu.Com's hands-on seminars and workshops will help you learn the techniques, tips, and tricks of ballet costume design and construction from master costume designers.
We teach the fine art of classical, romantic, and neo-romantic tutu design, construction, and embellishment,
carefully blending the techniques of yesterday's masters with today's materials and technologies.
But, we don't just teach tutu classes - our seminars cover a very wide range of topics,
including bodices, tiaras, headpieces, several types of dresses, draping, pattern grading, decorating, accessorizing, mask-making, and many many other subjects.
All our instructors are experts and masters, and all are wonderful teachers - you will work hard, meet new people, gain new skills and get lots of new ideas, and have a tremendous amount of fun!
And, since class sizes are limited, the instruction is very personalized, and group interaction is always highly encouraged.
Our workshops are attended by non-designers, new costumers, and working professionals of all ages and skill levels from countries all around the world.
In fact, our seminars have helped launched several costume designers and businesses over the years,
most of the tutu companies out there today have had someone attend our seminars,
and a great many tutu makers are using our patterns and the techniques they learned in our workshops.
If you look around some, you'll find our influence almost everywhere!

In general, we supply all the materials necessary to complete the seminar - any exceptions are noted with the Seminar details.
You will need to bring your own basic sewing kit, complete with scissors, pins, thread, etc.
You will need to supply your own sewing machine, unless otherwise specified.
A serger is not usually required, unless otherwise specified, though always handy to have with you.
You must be an intermediate or advanced level seamstress - our Seminars do not teach any basic sewing skills.
Although you do not need to be an expert seamstress, prior sewing and/or costuming experience will make the class(es) much easier for you.
You should also be familiar with the sewing-machine and/or serger you bring to class - we can't teach you how to use your particular machine!
We are always open to suggestions for new topics, content changes, new locations, different times of year, etc, etc.
Feel free to email, write, or call us with your ideas.
Tip for Schools, Companies, and Costumers
The costumes and costume items created in our seminars will be very high-quality, and worth quite a lot of money!
The skills the costumer learns will be re-useable time and again, for a great many more costumes and costume items, for years to come.
The techniques we teach are production-quality, and the costumes and accessories created in our seminars are typically stage-ready.
As a costumer, you decide whether to donate, rent, or sell your creation to your dance school or company.
Many schools and companies have funded all or part of their costumer's expenses in trade for the items created, or in trade for future creations.
The funding of these expenses can be often subsidized with grants from federal, state, or local arts organizations.
And, the 'payback' to the school or company will far exceed the initial outlay in terms of time or money!
Note for Dance Schools, Dance Companies, and Other Interested Parties
Can't make it to one of our scheduled seminar dates? We can come to you!
We strive to maintain an open and flexible schedule, and we love to travel.
Looking for ideas for fund raisers? Have several local costumers in need of tutu training?
Our workshops have been sponsored by or partnered with the IBC, by RDA Festivals (SERBA, NERDA), by large and small ballet companies, and by dance schools.
We provide the materials and the instruction, you provide the site and participants.
Many of our courses can be taught as mini-workshops, as very-intensive long-day seminars, or at a more leisurely, extended pace.
We can often customize the syllabus to suit your particular needs.
Pricing is dependent on format, length, and requirements.
