You will construct one skirt-style:
- Traditional Romantic - long skirt, 4-6 layers of tulle, hangs from the waist, no over-basque, or
- Neo-Romantic - long skirt, 4-6 layers of tulle, hangs from the hip, with over-basque or quilted hipline or boned long-line basque, or
- short 'Degas'-style Romantic with quilted hipline, or
- 'Petaled' Romantic (Faerie) - 6 layers, 3 tiers, 'petal' shaped skirt-layers, or
- any of the above options with roll-hemmed bottom-edges
NEW! - For 2009, we have added an advanced skirt-style option, a gorgeous 'Russian-style' gored skirt,
featuring 4 layers, with 16 to 24 gores per layer.
This option is only available as a single-color skirt, in your choice of white, pink, or lavender tulle.
Be aware, the gored skirt is an advanced design.
Although the result is beautiful and well-worth the effort, this style is Much More Intensive, with Lots More Work!
To complete this tutu in one day, you MUST be able to work in a Very Focused Manner and NOT be easily distracted.
All the skirt styles can be built on an integrated panty, or created for use with separate trunks - we'll discuss both methods, you will choose 1 to create.
You will create your skirt in one color/role option:
- single color - white, pink, or lavender tulle, or
- white tulle with white silver-sparkle tulle ('Snow Corps'), or
- white tulle with light-blue silver-sparkle tulle ('Snow Corps'), or
- several shades of pink, with a top-layer of either pink gold-sparkle tulle or pink silver-sparkle tulle ('Waltz of the Flowers'), or
- several shades of purple/lavender with a top-layer of either purple or lavender gold-sparkle tulle or purple or lavender silver-sparkle tulle ('Waltz of the Flowers'), or
- mix of pink, light-garnet, fuschia, and coral with a top layer of pink gold-sparkle tulle ('Waltz of the Flowers'), or
- mix of lavender, fuschia, green, and dusty-rose with a top layer of silver-sparkle tulle ('Waltz of the Flowers')
We will explain various finishing options in class, and you will choose one option:
- hand-ruched hipline, or
- machine-quilted hipline, or
- casing with inserted elastic at the hip instead of a basque, or
- fabric basque with tulle attached from hip
- long-line fabric basque, boned, beginning 3-inches above the waist
Although you will create only 1 skirt-style in class, and choose only 1 finishing option, you will have the opportunity to learn about the others, and to see how they are designed and constructed.
Please note: this workshop does NOT include bodice instruction.
The course is designed to work in conjunction with our 'Bodice Construction' or 'Bodice Design, Patterning, and Construction' seminars.
