Our vintage-style rehearsal tutu was originally conceived from inspiration from our friend, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) dancer, Remy Young. Remy wanted a softer rehearsal tutu, one that evokes the feelings and traditions so important in the ballet world. Other dancers saw Remy's tutu and wanted to create one of their own.

It used to be that rehearsal tutus were simply old, floppy, retired performance tutus - tutus that had already seen their performance days and had been infused with energy, commitment, love, and sweat by the performers who had worn them. When you wore an old tutu for rehearsal, you saw the names of the ballerinas who had performed in them on stage written inside the basque, the ballerinas you looked up to, the ones who had inspired you to become a dancer, and you could feel that energy and draw from it in your own interpretation of the role.

These rehearsal tutus are made with a softer hand, a mixture of colors, tulles, and nets to recreate the feeling of the traditions that are everything in the ballet world. With over 30 net colors and 70 tulle colors from which to choose, your rehearsal tutu can be one of a kind, just like you, made to reflect your artistry. See image #5. 

To start the process of creating your vintage-style tutu, choose your size, and write in what colors you would like. 2 to 3 colors are all we need to mix some beautiful shadings from which you will choose your perfect rehearsal tutu, as individual as you are.

Allow 10-16 weeks for delivery since this is a custom item, although at certain times of the year, we can get it to you much faster.  Once we have your order, we will ruffle up some samples of net and tulle using different shadings and send them to you so you can choose exactly what you want.

SHIPPING COSTS

Tutu.Com offers free, domestic ground shipping to the 48 contiguous United States, up to $20, on orders costing $149 and up. This free option covers about 85% of orders. For very heavy orders that cost $149 or more, the first $20 of your shipping will be free. We will invoice you for any shipping amount over $20. Once shipping is paid, your order will go out. Our minimum domestic shipping charge for orders under $149 is $14.95 for Ground, and $37 for 1 to 3 day Express/Expedited, depending on where you are in the US. Free shipping option is not available for Express/Expedited shipping. Base International shipping charges are Canada: $42.00 USD. All other countries: $70.00 USD. If your base-rate/minimum shipping charge does not cover the cost to ship your order, we will bill additional shipping charges when your order is ready to ship.

We have several base rates for classical tutus that must be shipped in over-sized boxes. Actual costs can run between $40-$70 in the continental U.S., more in some places. We will always research what is the least expensive way to safely ship your items. We will also insure costumes for their full value. This will add to the cost, but not too much. All custom costumes are shipped with signature required when delivered. This is for your protection.

TRACKING & INSURANCE

Unless otherwise requested, orders shipped within the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and most US Territories and Military addresses, are sent via UPS Ground shipping (2-6 day) with tracking. You will receive an email with your package's tracking number so that you may track it. UPS provides insurance for the first $100 of an order. If your order cost is higher, we will automatically insure it for the total. There is an extra charge when we do this, but it is minimal.

PROCESSING TIME

We strive to ship in-stock items within two Business Days after we receive your order. (This does not include custom-made items, like tutus and other costumes, which require a lead time and are shipped when completed. Also, orders which include fabric-cuts or custom-dying may require an additional time, but we will always let you know how long it will take.) All orders are shipped FOB Charlotte, NC USA.

INTERNATIONAL

For destinations outside the United States, delivery times are dependent on your destination country and on your local postal and customs services. Customs delays are not the responsibility of Tutu.Com. Our shipping rates do not include any customs charges that may be imposed by your country's customs regulations.

TutuSchools Costuming Seminars by Tutu.com is a premier educational experience for anyone interested in mastering the craft of ballet costuming. With expert-led, hands-on courses open to all skill levels, it’s the perfect place to learn, create, and connect with others who share your passion for ballet and the performing arts.

No previous experience in costume making is required-TutuSchool is designed to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to advanced creators. However, participants must already know how to sew both by machine and by hand. Each seminar provides the opportunity to work at your own pace, choose your own projects, and receive personalized support from instructors.

Details on all courses are available in our Course Catalog and city-specific seminar website pages. The typical duration of each course varies depending on the complexity of the project, ranging from several hours to as long as five days. Participants can choose one or multiple classes and personalize each course project kit, giving them plenty of creative freedom to explore and express their unique style!
