This beautiful, Custom Classical Tutu with 8-piece, European-style, Bodice with point center front, was made by DeMette Ginn for her daughter, Erin, using many products available through Tutu.com. All of the custom designs featured in our LookBooks utilize fabrics, embellishments, and/or patterns available through Tutu.com. Patterns are either purchased from our in-stock standard Junior Missy sizes, or are custom-made specifically for a client’s particular design needs.

As always, we are very happy to share with you the exact materials we used to create our designs. However, keeping in mind our commitment to giving each client a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, we keep some secrets regarding how we put those materials together, or where we purchased/how we made the special embellishments, etc. that are not sold through Tutu.com. As a tutu-maker, we know that you too want your designs to be original and special.

Miss Ginn’s “Sugar Plum Fairy Tutu” started with tutu nets from our vast collection. Products listed below were used in its design or are recommended substitutes or options.

Bodice and Basque

The Bodice and basque are soft, pink Stretch Taffeta, SKU 610-6059-065056. Don’t want to use a stretch fabric? Pastel Pink Bengaline, SKU 640-1448-065060, or one of our beautiful brocades are great substitutes and would work very well! Take a look at all of our current brocades.
Bodice lining fabric used is Coutil. We like to treat stretch taffeta as both a stretch and a stable fabric, lining the center front and back pieces with coutil, a herringbone-weave, 100% cotton fabric for stability. 60 IN White Coutil SKU 560-0150-114060, and lining the side pieces with heavy powernet, SKU 560-0693-114036, for flexibility and ease of movement.
8-piece European-style Bodice Pattern by Claudia Folts SKU 220-109, available in seven Junior Missy sizes.
Steel Spiral Boning was used in the bodice, as was our Invisible Mesh Elastic. Both can be found in Notions.

Tutu

This tutu is made in the Russian tradition. It has 9-10 layers of net and can be made with or without a 3/8-inch plastic-coated hoopwire SKU 985-9044-114038 in a casing.

Panty or “knicker” fabric recommended for a classical tutu? 100% nylon Heavy Powernet, or 100% cotton Bobbinet. Both can be found in Specialty Inset, Tutu Panty, Linings along with other lining fabrics and the skintone inset fabrics.
Adult Standard Classical Tutu Panty Pattern by Claudia Folts SKU 220-1330-000001 OR or the Russian High-cut Panty Pattern, also by Claudia Folts SKU 220-1320-000001.

Embellishments

Swarovski 20ss and 30ss Light Rose, Rose, AB Light Rose, and AB Crystal rhinestones, both hot fix and flat-back glue on, would work well with rosette tutu net.
Trims include Scalloped Gold Metallic Trim SKU 530-7173-048058, and Gold Metallic Bias Piping SKU 530-9802-048001.
The delicate lace used on the plate is not available. A nice substitute could be SKU 595-1126-114050, or several of the other laces in Specialty Lace Embroidered Organzas.
The gorgeous gold applique embellishing the center front of the bodice is SKU 320-2000-000421
