TutuSchool Wings Courses

Ever wondered how to make Sylph or Fairy wings for ballet? These classes will give you all the information and hands-on experience to make your own, beautiful wings. Whether delicate Sylph wings for Les Sylphides, Wili wings for Giselle, or Fairy wings for Midsummer Night’s Dream or Sleeping Beauty, you will be covered!

In Sylph and Wili Wings Level One, you’ll learn how to work with millinery wire, jewel wire, and soft tulle to make these traditional ballet-style wings; appropriate size for various choreography / variations; and different ways to attach the wings to a bodice. Patterns will be included. You will need thread to match the white tulle used in this class.

In Advanced Fairy Wings Level Two you will work with a pre-made jig and millinery wire to shape beautiful fairy wings. You will be making several separate wings using a sparkle or glimmer tulle, and learning how to securely put them together. You will also decorate them with glitter glue, sequins, etc. You have several color choices and will need to bring thread to match.

For both of these classes, you will need to bring extra sewing machine needles (you may break a few!), some painter’s tape or masking tape, and a pair of safety glasses. You cannot take the class without safety glasses as you will be zigzagging over millinery wire. Inexpensive safety glasses can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe’s. If you wear glasses already then you won’t need other safety glasses.

TutuSchools Costuming Seminars by Tutu.com is a premier educational experience for anyone interested in mastering the craft of ballet costuming. No previous experience in costume making is required-TutuSchool is designed to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to advanced creators. However, participants must already know how to sew both by machine and by hand. Each seminar provides the opportunity to work at your own pace, choose your own projects, and receive personalized support from instructors.

The typical duration of each course varies depending on the complexity of the project, ranging from several hours to as long as five days. Participants can choose one or multiple classes and personalize each course project kit, giving them plenty of creative freedom to explore and express their unique style!
